How To Build Your Own Mountain Shelf
It all begins with an idea. What started out for us was an idea we wanted for our first baby’s nursery. We wanted to go with a woodland theme but also outdoor cabin feel. Once I had the idea for a mountain shelf and Sean got to building it right away. What was an idea for us, ended up being our top seller for years to come.
Sean got the cutting angles down so you do not have to.
Don’t worry, you do not have to be a professional to build this piece, but you do need a saw to get started. A miter saw works best for this project. If you do not have one a great starter saw can be found at your local hardware store. A good starter to look at is the Ryobi 10in double beveled miter saw found at Home Depot. Also a great option too is most Home Depot’s have Tool Rentals to rent a saw.
I don’t know about you but I am a Home Depot Girl for Life.
Can you do it without a Miter Saw? Sure but it will be a heck of a lot harder to do. That involves needing a clamping miter box and a manual saw.
Materials needed:
Saw of Choice ( see above description)
Any 1x4x8 board. Personally I used the 1x4x8 pine common boards (you guessed it found at Home Depot). If those do not look straight or wanted to save a little time sanding go for the premium boards.
Brad Nailer or Pin Nailer
Wood Glue ( I prefer titebond) but again use what you like best
Paint or Stain of choice once built.
Do we sell the made Shelf still? Of Course and it can be found in our shop if you want to skip making it for your self and you want to support your favorite woodworking shop. But if you do want to take on the adventure of making your own, if you already have the right tools, you can make this shelf for under $30. But just know that this one shelf is how we started our adventure of woodworking and creating. So make sure you are ready for the creating itch.
